Surely you’ve must have heard about the term 4G (fourth generation mobile or cell phone) and know less about the term LTE, LTE-advanced or LTE network using 4G phones. That terms we will discuss in this article today, but … do you know what it means? What is it for? Today we explain to you in easy and simple language, we will tell you what applications you have, and the most frequently asked questions about LTE or LTE Advanced to clear all your doubts.

The full form of term LTE is Long Term Evolution. LTE is a wireless data transmission technology that is primarily designed to support the constant Internet access on mobile phones and portable devices. We could summarize by saying that LTE is the technology used in fourth generation Mobile phones, Smartphone’s or Tablets, called 4G mobiles, for upload and download data from the Internet. Actually the 4G uses LTE Advanced, the same technology but more advanced that we will see later.

Every time we use more internet with a lot of devices which are in the market, we download millions of applications, play with millions of users online, we see lots of multimedia content, etc. We can practically connect to the internet at any time and we are more and more that we do, well, because LTE technology aims to provide a better service for us. It provides a great speed while uploading or download data from the network.

Technically speaking, LTE or 4G LTE refers to a standard mobile communication, called LTE connectivity , developed by the organization 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) that detected a great need to ensure the competitiveness of 3G in the future and thus pleased the users who demanded more quality and faster service.

For a technology or rather, a mobile or cell phone, can carry the 4G label must meet certain requirements, especially speed upload and download data, technology LTE Advanced , fulfills them all.    For example, for one to be considered 4G, one of the conditions is that it reaches peak rates of 1 Gbps in low-speed mobility (user quiet or on foot) and 100 Mbps in high-speed mobility (trains, cars …)and also very important, without cuts in the connection. The only two technologies that can be considered and are approved as 4G are LTE Advanced and Wimax. In short, in today world, it’s almost more valuable than gold, this technology aims to be faster, better available and more secure.


Depending on the provider and the traffic conditions of the network, users using LTE connectivity experience a large difference in speed in their devices, compared to previous technologies. Look at the following graphic diagram taking as reference the speeds of the different technologies, from 1G to 4G with LTE-Advanced technology.

4G LTE is fast as a rocket!!!. But … let’s talk about real speeds.    If you are one of those who understand data upload and data download, LTE technology can provide data uploads of between 1 and 50 Mb per second and between 1 and 20 Mb per second in downloads (download). The theory states that the maximum data transfer rate with LTE is 300 Mb per second; this was not enough to be considered 4G. From the need to be considered 4G came LTE-Advanced that can reach more than 1000 Mbps or 1Gbps, which is why it is considered 4G. These speeds are 10 times higher than the previous 3G technology or the typical ADSL that we have at home. To give you an idea, with this technology you could download a song almost instantly, or you can download a movie in HD of about 4GB in just 2 minutes !!!.    But all this would be in optimal conditions of connection and it is not always so, rather, most of the time it is not.



To begin we will say that for a device to support LTE technology has to come designed with an LTE antenna and chip compatible with it.    Well, we’ll probably end up saying what devices can NOT support LTE technology, which are mostly desktop devices: PCs and some laptops (but you can use 4G Dongle instead). Otherwise, Smartphones , iPhones , Tablets and some GPS devices can support this technology.

The moment response is NO. The LTE network is widely available in most urban areas but depends on which operators in each zone. There are many large cities that do not yet have LTE connectivity. In addition, it is necessary to consider the need for infrastructure for wireless communication and, for example, in many countries in Africa and South America or Asia does not exist.

CONCLUSION:   The technology LTE is the evolution of 3G and is or will be (depends on countries) the most used. LTE-advanced is compatible with 4G devices but not with 3G.
